Innovating from Necessity: Our Journey
The article shares the inspiring story of our founders, Mauricio Bonilla and Gastón Islas, who hail from Sonora, Mexico. Their determination to solve water scarcity led to the creation of Innovaqua and the development of Nube. This revolutionary machine uses condensation to produce potable water from atmospheric humidity, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional water sources.
The Genesis of Nube
The idea for Nube emerged in response to the construction of the Independence Aqueduct, which transported water from Ciudad Obregón to Hermosillo, causing water shortages in their hometown. Mauricio and Gastón, with backgrounds in industrial engineering and computer technologies respectively, saw a need for a more sustainable solution. They discovered that the process of condensation could be harnessed to generate clean water from the air, leading to the inception of Nube.
Transforming Technology into a Household Essential
Our goal is to make Nube as ubiquitous as refrigerators or washing machines by 2020. This innovative appliance connects to the electrical grid and, through condensation, can produce up to 30 liters of water daily in its domestic version and up to 5,000 liters in its industrial version. Nube stands out by offering an environmentally friendly solution that reduces reliance on bottled water, thereby diminishing plastic waste.
The Growth of Innovaqua
Since our founding in 2012, Innovaqua has evolved from a startup to a leading provider of atmospheric water generators. The support from BanRegio in 2014, through financing and mentorship, was pivotal in our exponential growth. We have since sold hundreds of Nube units, significantly expanding our customer base.
Market Impact and Sustainability
The demand for Nube continues to grow, reflecting a broader market trend towards sustainable water solutions. As noted in the Entrepreneur article, Mexico has one of the highest per capita consumption rates of bottled water, with households purchasing over 1,500 liters annually. Nube offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative, enabling families to recover their investment within a year by eliminating the need for bottled water.
Health Benefits and Environmental Impact
The water produced by Nube is alkaline and ionized, providing health benefits by countering the acidity from common dietary habits. Additionally, Nube's advanced filtration system ensures that only hydrogen and oxygen pass through, maintaining the purity of the water. By reducing the use of plastic bottles and garrafons, Nube also contributes to environmental conservation.
Looking Ahead
Currently available on Amazon in the U.S., we plan to expand Nube's reach to Latin America by the end of 2017, with potential markets in Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. Our vision is to provide reliable, sustainable water solutions globally, especially in regions with high humidity where Nube can be particularly effective.
